Imports increases by 33% in August

The CIF value of goods imported during August increased by 33% compared to August last year. Approximately MVR 3.16 billion worth of goods were imported during August 2017, whereas this year the figure was recorded at MVR 4.1 billion. Among the top importing countries, China recorded the highest with 19% and United Arab Emirates at the second with 18%.

The FOB value of goods exported during last August showed a decrease of 18% to that of the same period last year, which is a decrease from MVR 315 million in August 2017 to MVR 259 million in August 2018. The largest quantity of the exports was to Germany which is 20% of the total exports for the month of August.
The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during August 2018 showed an increase of 14% compared to that of August 2017. A total of MVR 280 million was collected through Customs duty last month.
