Imports increases by 26% in February




Imports increased by 26% in February 2018, when compared to the same period last year. Goods worth more than MVR 3.1 billion were imported during February 2017, whereas the figure was recorded at MVR 3.8 billion for during last month. Among the top importing countries, Singapore recorded the highest with 19%.

The FOB value of goods exported during last February decreased by 20% compared to February 2017, which was in value-wise a decrease from MVR 299 million in February 2017 to MVR 240 million in February 2018. Among major exporting countries, Thailand was recorded as highest with 50% of the total exports for the month of February.

The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during February 2018 decreased by 20% compared to that of February 2017. A total of MVR 257 million was collected through import duty and fees last month.
