Export rises by 18% in August

The FOB value of goods exported during last August showed an increase of 18% to that of the same period last year, which is an increase from MVR 269 million in August 2016 to MVR 317 million in August 2017. The largest quantity of the exports was to Thailand which is 40% of the total exports for the month of August.

The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during August 2017 showed an increase of 14% compared to that of August 2016. A total of MVR 244 million was collected through Customs duty last month.

The CIF value of goods imported during August increased by 11% compared to August last year. Approximately MVR 2.9 billion worth of goods were imported during August 2016, whereas this year the figure was recorded at MVR 3.2 billion. Among the top importing countries, United Arab Emirates recorded the highest with 19% and China at the second with 13%.
