All cargo imported into Maldives is liable to duties of Customs under Section 31/79. Source of trade data is collected from the declarations submitted to Maldives Customs Service. These declarations are submitted electronically and then transferred and stored in Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA). The data collection is based on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System of the World Customs Organization.
Mode of Transports used in Maldives is Sea, Air & Post. Imports are based on CIF value (Cost, Insurance & Freight) and country is considered for the country of consignment (port of loading) whereas, exports are based on FOB value (free on board) and country is considered for c ountry of final destination. The unit used to calculate the price is Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR).
It is important that accurate information is declared in the declarations which will assist business competing in the import and export fields and help government to formulate and monitor policy initiatives and international trade negotiations.
Tariff & Statistics Section provides relevant trade data to stake holders and individuals on their request. To get import export statistics “Statistics Request Form” shall be filled and submitted to Statistics section of Maldives Customs Service.
