A meeting was held at Customs with importers to provide information on the requirement of submitting a complete packing list. The meeting was held on 25th March 2009 at the Meerubahuru Malan. The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 100 companies.
A presentation was given to the importers about the minimum information required in a full and complete packing list. Explanations were also given by Customs about the need for having a complete packing list. Chief Customs Officers Mr. Ahmed Niyaz and Mr. Adam Shafeeq explained that having a complete and correct packing list will drastically reduce the clearance time spent on documentation and examination.
At first the deadline to begin mandatory submission of packing list was set for 1st April 2009. However due to the requests of the importers the due date of mandatory submission of packing list has been postponed for 1st May 2009, after which invoices without complete packing lists will not be accepted.
The meeting was organized by the Valuation Section.
