Principal Collector of Customs visits Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal and Seenu Atoll
The Principal Collector of Custom Mr. Mohamed Aswan visited Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal and Seenu Atoll from 18th to 23rd March 2009. On this visit, he first visited G.A Vilingili, where he observed the operations of G.A Vilingili Customs and met with the staff. He also held meetings with Atoll Councilor and Island Councilor. In addition, he visited the MIFCO Fish Factory (Kooddoo) located in that Atoll. In Vilingili he also officiated the 7th Zone Football Tournament as the Chief Guest.
He then visited G. Dh Thinadhoo where he met with the Councilors' and Atoll Office staff. In this meeting he discussed the issues related to the establishment of Transit Harbor of the Province which is planned to be located in that island.
As the final stop of the trip Mr. Aswan visited Seenu Atoll. In Addu he visited and met with staff of S. Gan and Hithadhoo Customs. He inquired about the concerns and problems of the staff and ensured the staff that efforts are being made at a persistent rate to bring about positive changes to the work environment as well as the staff welfare.
In Addu Atoll he held meetings with the Province State Minister, Atoll Councilors and the Island Councilors. In these meetings discussions were held regarding the operational challenges of the Regional Port as well the current social problem of drug trafficking and drug abuse.
In Addu he also met with the businessmen of the Atoll. From this meeting he learnt about difficulties faced, such as the unavailability of the proper port facilities to unload the goods directly to the S. Hithadhoo Port. He also had discussions on measures to solve these matters with Maldives Ports Limited.
He then visited the Herethere Resort where he expressed his concerns regarding the matter of increased pilferage of alcoholic drinks to the Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo Islands and urged the resort management to take all appropriate measures to control the problem.
In all three Atolls he held meetings with the Police as well. In this trip Mr. Aswan was accompanied by Deputy Director Mr. Abdulla Ali.
