Hashish Bags in Thermal Cooker

On 04 March 2009, Indian male passenger who arrived from Trivandrum to Malé on Maldivian Q2 701 flight was targeted by Customs officers. He was suspected of carrying illicit drug. Inspection of his luggage and body revealed deformation in the sides of the thermal cooker he was carrying. Further inspection, in the X-ray image identified informality in the bottom of the thermal cooker, which found 1 packet of brownish black oily substances in polythene cover. This oily substance was positive to Hashish and weighed 1030 grams including the polythene packing.

According to his passport he had made frequent trips between India and Maldives between the period of 1997 and 2000.

In relation to this seizure, on 04 March 2009, one Maldivian has been apprehended in a joint controlled delivery operation by Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Police Service.
