Principal Collector of Customs, Mr. Mohamed Aswan has met with the remaining staff, with whom he was unable to meet in the two previous meeting sessions. Mr. Aswan initiated these meeting sessions to meet all staff of Customs upon his appointment as the Head of Customs. With this meeting held on 03 March 2009 at Meerubahuru Maalan; now he has met all staff of Customs working in Male’, Hulhule’ and K.Thilafushi Customs.

Addressing the staff Mr. Aswan said that he is working to streamline and modernize Customs procedures as soon as possible. In this regard Mr. Aswan said that some major changes in the area of Valuation can be expected in a very near future. He also said the duty free allowance for passengers and for items ordered for personal use will be revised in the coming weeks. Talking about staff issues, he said that the current changes in the civil service regulations are still ongoing and not finalized yet; but said that he will make sure that all pending issues are addressed and cleared soon.

Followed by Mr. Aswan's address, the staffs were invited to express their thoughts, concerns and ideas related to their work. Director Mr. Ismail Nashid also took part in the meeting.

Mr. Aswan is expected to meet the staff working in the Regional Customs officers soon.
